Executive coaching is a confidential and highly personalised process, where you work in a relationship with your coach. The Australian Leadership Development Centre offers executive coaching services across Australia. Your coach will be a confidential source of both support and challenge throughout your developmental journey.

Recent research indicates that the executive coaching process and its associated on-the-job learning assignments are the preferred methods of developing leadership for leaders at all levels. This is not surprising as executive coaching focuses exclusively on areas that each leader needs and wants to develop, and it has a proven track record of turning ideas into enhanced attitudes and behaviours within the workplace.

We offer:

Personalised Executive Coaching

Our one-on-one executive coaching process involves:

  1. An initial consultation to determine the aims of the process, the suitability of executive coaching to achieving those aims and your comfort level with us.
  2. An assessment phase, where we use level and context appropriate assessments to determine leadership strengths and developmental needs.
  3. A planning phase, where we assist you to set high-impact goals and plan a plan a path forward to meet those goals over a 3-6 month period.
  4. A support phase, where we assist you to develop your competence within your goal areas.
  5. The accountability phase, where we assess your progress towards your goals.
The initial consultation is complimentary. To progress to stage two, both you and your coach must agree that is worth continuing.

The choice of assessments used will depend on the aim of the coaching process and how much you wish to spend. This is discussed and agreed upon during the initial consultation. Assessment options include psychometric assessment, 360 degree feedback assessment as well as interviews with staff, supervisors, family or friends.

During the planning phase your executive coach will help you:

  • Identify developmental needs emerging from your assessments
  • Set specific developmental goals for a 3-12 month period
  • Plan a range of varied activities to achieve your goals, including setting the number and frequency of support coaching sessions you wish to access. You can add further sessions at any time.

During the support phase you will undertake some targeted, on-the-job stretch assignments. You will need to commit to keeping a reflective journal, practising set exercises and completing some homework assignments. The support coaching sessions offer you an opportunity to learn from your experiences, discuss upcoming challenges and practices desired skills. You select the number and frequency of support coaching sessions during the initial consultation; however you can add further sessions whenever you wish. The graph beside may help you to decide upon the right number of coaching sessions for you. Typically, initial sessions are held weekly , with ongoing sessions held each month for between 3-12 months.

Effectiveness of executive coaching for leaders with each session

Executive Team Coaching

Our unique executive team coaching process will help you collectively work out and action more productive ways of working together as a leadership team. Specifically, executive team coaching can help you:

  • Develop and action strategies for taking advantage of opportunities and guarding against threats facing your organisation or unit.
  • Adopt an aligned approach to leading those around you.

Leadership impact is affected by both the aligned actions and the collective interactions of all leaders on the leadership team.

Collectively, leadership teams have been shown to be more effective than any individual leader on the team when:

  • Responding to complex challenges
  • Commitment of each leadership team member is important to success.
Whilst each leadership team member will have their own:

  • Functional roles
  • Individual strengths, weaknesses
  • Personalities and styles

It is important that each member of the executive leadership team should always act in ways that support and dovetail with the work of other leadership team members. Not aligning the efforts of executive leadership team members results in wasted effort, uncoordinated action and followers being pulled in different directions by leaders with cross purposes.

Executive team excellence is achieved when the whole team takes collective responsibility for influencing others to act in ways that achieve the organisation’s goals. Like members of an orchestra each leader plays their role in a way that complements the roles, strengths, weaknesses, personalities and styles of other leaders on the team.

Our executive team coaching process involves:

  • An initial consultation to determine the aims of the process, the suitability of executive team coaching to achieving those aims and your comfort level with us
  • Assessing what is so now through interviewing each member of the leadership team and a sampling of staff.
  • An initial executive team development session (1-2 days) to nurture trusting relationships between leadership team members whilst also developing an agreed action plan to enhance the effectiveness of the executive leadership team as a collective.
  • A series of 2 hour team coaching sessions that support and challenge the leadership team to action their commitments back within the workplace, whilst also learning from experiences and refining their efforts along the way.
  • An evaluation of how the team has developed as a collective.
Contact us today to discuss how our executive team coaching process could help your executive leadership team to enhance its collective impact.

Follow-Up Coaching

In one of the first empirical studies of the effects of coaching, Gerald Olivero and colleagues  found that training alone accounted for a 22.4% increase in productivity, but when followed with coaching productivity increased 88.0%.

Follow-up coaching is designed to help you take the good ideas you have during and after a workshop and turn them into sustained enhancements in your leadership behaviour. You can choose either our:

  • Implementer Package, with three sessions over six weeks for just $149 per session.
  • Sustainer’s Package, with seven sessions over three months at $99 per session.

Effect of executive coaching with different umbers of sessions

Less than 15% of standalone management training results in sustained application of learning within the workplace. Follow-up coaching provides you with the means to maximise behavioural change back in the workplace.

You can arrange follow up coaching as part of your registration process or simply contact us after the event.

Coach Training for Internal Coaches

Using internal leadership coaches is cost-effective way to spread the benefits of executive coaching across managerial levels within an organisation. Independent research shows that for first-mid level leaders internal coaches can have the same impact as external coaches, when:

  • Dedicated time is blocked off for internal coaches to conduct their leadership coaching, rather than internal coaching simply being tacked onto their existing role expectations.
  • Internal coaches undergo quality, practical training prior to working on their own as an internal leadership coach.

Accredited internal coach training involves:

  • A real life simulation of the full coaching process for each internal coach.
  • A minimum of 30 hours (4 days) training in the core competencies of coaching.
  • Two observed coaching sessions.
  • A coaching competence exam.

The benefits of having your internal coaches complete accredited training:

  • Ensures internal coaches meet acceptable standards of competence in coaching.
  • Provides your internal coaches with consistent ethical guidelines to be applied in their coaching endeavours.
  • Demonstrates to your internal coaches that their ‘internal coaching’ role is more than just a tack onto their existing roles.
  • Reassures those being coached that their coaching journey will be worthwhile.

Please contact us today, to discuss training options for your internal leadership coaches.
