With a review of research showing that leadership consistently accounts for between 20-45% of variance in organisational performance levels, leadership clearly matters.
What are the pressing issues facing our leaders today?
What do Australians look for in a leader, and how does this compare to the leadership needed to ensure we are globally competitive?
As a country, what are our collective leadership strengths and weaknesses?
These are the sorts of big questions being tackled in our major research project, ‘Leadership - The Australian Way’.
Leadership has been defined as the art of achieving results through your impact on others. By enhancing our understanding of what Australians see as effective leadership we provide guidance into ways that Australian leaders can enhance their impact that is not available in existing, US dominated leadership theories. Further, by assessing the current strength of leadership within each area identified as important within an Australian context, critical common areas for development can be identified that can be used to meaningfully inform the focus of leadership development and executive education programs offered in Australia.
This research project consists of 3 broad stages:
-
A review of existing research and literature on both universally applicable and Australian-centric aspects of effective leadership.
-
The development of an authoritative leadership framework that reflects what is needed from 21st century Australian leaders.
-
Assessment of how well Australian leaders are performing in each aspect of the framework developed in stage 2.
We need organisations, big and small to get involved. It doesn’t matter whether what industry you are in, or whether you work in the business, public service or educational sectors – we want you. You can get your organisation involved a number of ways, all of which require official registration to be part of the project. Options include:
-
Providing financial sponsorship for the program. Faculty from the Australian Leadership Development Centre freely give their time and expertise but need financial support to advertise the program and disseminate its findings.
-
Contributing your existing leadership frameworks, and their research base for our consideration.
-
Having up to 100 leaders and representative staff from your organisation assess the state of leadership in your organisation against this framework.
All program sponsors will be duly acknowledged as a leader of leaders in Australia.
Organisations who participate in the program will likewise be mentioned in the report and it’s associated publicity campaign. No results from individual organisations will be published in the public report. We will however, provide an organisational report back to the key contact in your organisation.
Register your interest today by emailing shaun@leadershipdevelopment.edu.au. We will contact you discuss your involvment before sending you a research agreement.
