The contracting of an organisation listed as a possible cult to conduct training for the Australian defence force is symptomatic of an industry out of control.
When it comes to management training, the market is awash with fads and consultants who peddle them. Over 15,000 books[i] on effective leadership are currently available, many with no grounding in evidence at all.
The chance of receiving the snake oil variety of management development is high when you consider that an estimated that over 3.2 million management and professional training programs are run each year[ii].
The problem goes further. Even if you access reputable providers and evidence-based content, research shows that less than 15% of learning from traditional management training results in sustained enhancements in a leader’s day-to-day leadership behaviours at work[iii].
Yet, when you consider that a review of research showed that the quality of leadership within organisations consistently accounts for between 20-45% of difference in organisational performance[iv], we cannot simply abandon efforts to enhance people’s leadership abilities. We simply must to better, that is our mission – to lift the standard of both leadership and leadership development within Australian organisations.
The Australian Leadership Development Centre is private educational organisation with a sole focus on leadership. In addition to conducting research into leadership and how to it can successfully be developed, we offer a range of leadership development programs using world-class program design.
